If you’ve been on a blog, forum, or owned an email account before, then you know the word “spam” all to well. For those who have not, spam is unwanted messages/mail which come in the form of advertisements and/or weird messages just to be malicious. No one likes spam and in our battle to keep our clients away from being plagued by those spammers out there, we have included Akismet, which is one of the leading companies for spam detection. The Akismet team has a very intuitive system that “learns” as it grows. After reading more about what they offer, we decided to give them a test drive.

Over the past few months we have been using Akismet on our blogs and forms and if you haven’t noticed – no spam! While using Akismets’ APIs we are able to send their system data to validate against, which in return reduces the chance of any spam slipping by.

We are very pleased so far with how it has been working for us. Our team has utilized the valuable information received from Akismet to create a local spam and a global “blacklisted” repository to take the hassle away from our clients having to constantly clean up senseless spam.

We recently included a stable version in our framework and plan on using it going forward for all our forms and blogs. Please feel free to share your experience with Akismet, whether good or bad, we would love to hear it.
